Borrowed from Classical Persian روزه (rōza, “fast”), from Middle Persian [script needed] (rōzag, “fasting”), ultimately from Proto-Iranian *ráwčakah. Compare Assamese ৰোজা (rüza), Hindustani گَاجَر (gājar) / रोज़ा (rozā), Sylheti ꠞꠥꠎꠣ (ruza).
